Monday, April 7th, 2014: One of the league's most exciting young players, Hayato Watanabe of the Chunichi ni-gun Dragons earned himself Western League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.
For the week the 23-year-old first baseman had a lofty .647 average (11-17), collecting 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

Monday, April 7th, 2014: So far in his young career, Yoshi Hasegawa has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Eastern League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 25-year-old Chiba ni-gun Lotte Marines first baseman hit at a torrid .526 clip as he collected 10 hits in 19 at-bats, 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

 | League Suspends Yamamoto and Suzuki for Fisticuffs
Sunday, April 6th, 2014: In an announcement today, the league informed Isoruko Yamamoto of Tokyo and Hitoshi Suzuki of Tohoku that they both had been suspended 2 games for fighting in a recent game.
The league president told them, "This type of aggressive behavior will not be tolerated in this league."
Yamamoto wasn't happy with the length of his suspension. He thought he got the worst deal and told the league commissioner, "In any fight, whoever throws the first punch should get a more severe penalty. If I threw the first punch, I'd expect to get the most punishment. Whoever took the blow should get a lesser punishment."
His manager agreed with him and said something needs to be done about it. "Yamamoto is right. The league needs to look at its policy and make sure the punishment fits the crime."
This season in 6 games, Yamamoto has hit at a .150 clip with 3 hits, 1 home run, 1 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
